MAJA acquisition closes successfully

On July 25, 2018 Marel announced that the company had entered into an agreement to acquire the German food processing equipment manufacturer MAJA. Anti-trust authorities have approved the acquisition and closing conditions have been satisfied. The transaction was finalized on August 14, 2018.

The MAJA acquisition strengthens Marel’s global market presence and is in line with the company’s strategic objective to be a full-line supplier of advanced processing equipment and solutions to the food processing industry.

With MAJA’s innovative product offering and complementary geographical reach, Marel is better positioned to advance market penetration and offer full-line solutions to the meat industry globally. Together, the companies will focus on delivering innovation and value to customers worldwide.

Avenir commun pour MAJA et MAREL

The MAJA-Maschinenfabrik Hermann Schill GmbH & Co. KG brings its vast array of special machines for food processing into the Icelandic MAREL corporation which will take over the majority of the MAJA company shares. MAREL HF is the world’s leading provider of innovative machines, systems solutions and services to the fish, meat and poultry processing industries. The transaction is subject to anti-trust approval and customary closing conditions, and is expected to close in the third quarter of 2018.

Together with MAREL, MAJA can add more value to better serve their partners and customers in the future and by offering national and international cutting-edge expertise and service portfolio. MAJA can strengthen its position long term as a market-leader in the butcher trade, the SMEs and the industry. MAJA gains access to the global platform of the MAREL group, which has a high market presence especially in Europe, Asia and America.

The MAJA management feels confident that the synergy will ideally complement MAJA’s successful business model. Reinhard Schill, owner and managing director of MAJA: „Together with MAREL and with our high quality and innovative product portfolio we are convinced that we can add more value to our global customers and partners by offering a comprehensive and cutting edge product and service portfolio. We are going to assist actively the integration and to contribute that MAJA within MAREL will continue its international growth story.”

Meeting customer demands and market needs, as well as maintaining the good customer relationships of many years, will still remain MAJA's paramount objective. It is the reason why MAJA still sees itself in the future equally as the partner of the butcher trade, the medium-sized meat processors and the meat industry.

There will be no change in the management responsibility, and also the contact persons for MAJA's customers will still be the same. The managing directors - the brothers Reinhard and Joachim Schill - together with Joachim Schelb will continue to lead the company also in the future. Joachim Schill states: „For all of us, employees as well as partners, the coming together of our companies is a strategic and suitable succession solution. Both, my brother and I, as the shareholders of MAJA, believe it is important to perpetuate the business location of Kehl-Goldscheuer, Germany, with our qualified and well experienced staff, in order to ensure a steady success in the future, and especially in the context of global challenges and economic frameworks in our target markets. This, being part of a larger organization - the MAREL group - will allow us to reach our goals.”

Since its foundation in 1955, MAJA develops, produces and distributes high-quality machines for food processing with main focus on the meat market and refrigeration. The product range includes derinding and defatting machines, poultry and fish skinners as well as automation systems and meat portioning solutions. The product portfolio is completed by the ice machine range for the production and refrigeration of fresh food. Based in Kehl-Goldscheuer in Germany, MAJA has around 200 employees and an annual turnover in 2017 of roughly EUR 30 million .
